That was a joke. They had a quick chuckle and then immediately went on to his actual first hot take.
I’m not sure Cammisa was joking. I saw his face, and what have you, but, Lars Strandridder from BestInTesla covered it and seemed to think that he was being serious. That was my read too that he was joking in delivery, but not in what he was saying especially when you couple that with the fact that he’s praised the engineering of the truck consistently. Annnnnd the whole context was that, ‘people are sleeping on electric cars’ and explicitly stating right after that that if you didn’t believe that electric propulsion was hands-down the best solution, it’s simply because you haven’t spent enough time in electric vehicles ‘or you’re being contrarian’ (Doug added).

So, I don’t know about your read there. But, I’ll certainly allow that I could be wrong. Just explain explaining why I think I’m correct.

Dalton, as a lawyer, I'm sure you're paying attention to Doug's exact words, and he's smart enough to choose them carefully but his overall message is to mislead the Cybertruck haters. We both know there are a lot of those in the world, so his video is nothing more than click/rage bait.

Even if I didn't snag a $59k fire sale special, I would still be less concerned about CT deprecition than any other truck by a leading brand. We can pick out specific examples of Doug's presentation but the 2 most are focusing on are the $56,500 RWD sale, and the $61,500 PAWD sale.

A few things us CT owners shouldn't forget, the RWD unicorn qualified for the $7500 tax credit and based on John Lewis' statement, Tesla was giving discounts on the RWD, most often free 20" wheels and other discounts. John said he paid $62,490 for his. So that $56,500 RWD CT on C&B ends up being $59,325 with fees and if the buyer had to ship, add another $2000. I won't include shipping but if you bought the RWD right, that's about a 5% depreciation. That's normal for any new vehicle sold and rolling off the lot. I would also say that RWD auction was held back a little from the untimely announcement (for the seller) of the SAWD version, fire-sale or not.

Moving on to the PAWD that sold for $62,490 or $64,050 with fees. About 80% of the cost of new so I see no surprises there. It was a high mileage (20k miles in a year and the highest mileage CT sold on C&B), wrecked, and a purple wrap that probably turned off a few potential buyers. I'd speculate if the miles were under 10k, not in an accident, and not wrapped it would have sold for $5-10k more.

So.... while Doug may be technically correct in his statements, as Paul Harvey would say, "and now you know... the rest of the story".

I didnt watch this video but I did watch him talk about the first cybertruck his site sold. I watched that auction, it was a horrible purple wrap and the truck had been in two accidents. He never mentioned those downsides when talked about selling the truck for $55k. Either disingenuous or ignorant and I used to be a fan.
He's certainly "disingenuous" and that is a defining trait of the used car salesman but I'd argue he not ignorant. Every move is calculated and he playing a character for a living and people are buying his shtick.

A quick Google search for Used Cybertruck's showed 9 results with least expensive being a 2024 DM/FS with 64K miles for $69,370. Most were in the $70K range and one at $109K (optimist?). In any case spending time watching Doug is a strong indicator that you need a hobby.
Edit
From CarGurus: "The average Tesla Cybertruck costs about $82,431.40. The average price has increased by 3.5% since last year. The 77 for sale near Sacramento, CA on CarGurus"

I have been waiting 1.5 years for the 35k CT prices he predicted, so I can get more.
No doubt. I'm looking forward to getting a 2027 PAWD in 2030 with less than 40k miles for $50k. If I see any extras, I'll let you know.

From what I've seen recently: if a YouTube vid has the CT in the title, it's there for cheap clickbait. The video could be positive, negative, factual, bullshit...doesn't matter. Every single time it's to lure someone into clicking and it's such a lame low effort lowest common denominator tactic. I'm sure it works very well, sadly.

As for the price drop and value proposition: seems like it all depends on when you bought. Bought high (early)? 70K is a little rough. Bought low (tax credit PAWD, for example), nothing to sweat. I got my PAWD with the tax incentive and 0% interest by purchasing FSD. It was an In Transit inventory model, so they threw in 1 year of supercharging and premium connectivity. Free charging at work saving me around $200 a month in gas (probably more recently). I'm not saying it pays for itself, but man gun to my head I couldn't think of a vehicle I'd rather drive and pay that money for. Not to mention essentially no maintenance.

I was glad to see the official CT X account dunk on Farah about the CT not being safe. I hope they can dunk on Doug some day as well. He's a long way away from dailying a 360 and abusing CarMax's warranty on his Range Rover. It's sad watching the algorithm mold creators into audience captured click farmers. Happens all the time I guess.

Lifetime FSD, Lifetime Super Charging, 0% interest, faster than any other FT4WD truck, 20A 120V outlets in cabin that stay on 24/7 and 240V in bed + current gas prices = saving money even at $106k. Some states still have/had tax credits.

Definitely not losing money, unless the entire truck shits the bed before 150K miles.
TRX owner(10MPG) after 4 years selling truck; spent $30k in gas...

Yes, he literally says, especially early foundation series purchasers. In fact, that is his base price. So, if he’s talking to anyone he’s talking to me and the other FS owners.

The title is definitely clickbait. The content again, minus some minor quibbles, isn’t really all that objectionable. He normalizes it by talking about EV’s in general, and talks about other factors that are relevant to the sales price. I think it’s analysis is fair. Certainly the price points can be off but it’s all speculation.

I agree that the algorithm encourages these shenanigans.

Depreciation was atrocious last year in 2025 for us FS owners. They certainly haven’t gotten better in 2026. That’s a couple of years and while you’re the best kind of right (technically right) it seems to be quite a fine splitting of hairs to say his a few months to soon to make this claim.
Right. And as you stated, all vehicles depreciate, not just EVs, and not just the Cybertruck. My issue was his attempt to farm views by exaggerating the length of time this has been happening and facetiously mark the Cybertruck as the only victim of this inevitability with almost every vehicle. So, he may also be “technically right” but that does not make his tactics any less slimy.

I can agree with that, it’s everywhere!
Yea even some Tesla Youtubers would put a negative thumbmail or title with a dumb face and then you watch the content and its positive. Its getting to a point where its just tacky. I look forward to making content myself at some point where i dont have to deal with this stupid tactic of click bait. There are a few good CT Youtubers that dont do that but lordy im just exhausted from BS click bate negative stuff only to find out its all positive.

Depreciation. Meh. I love my CT. There is no comparable vehicle today. It is an order of magnitude better than any other car I have owned over the past 40 years. And I’ve owned a lot of cars. You would have to pry it from my cold dead hands. So I could give a f*** about depreciation.

I have owned BMWs most of my life, and the depreciation was far worse, so I really don't get what people are talking about. Also, I don't sell cars for a living, so it's a non-factor in my calculus. To me, it's a tool for fun, adventure, and travel.
