Real story on corrosion?

Last year I decided to clean up my two stainless-steel litter boxes after the passing of my last remaining cat. The pans had been steeping in the most unspeakable horrors for more than 10 years, and resisted simple cleaning.

I eventually filled the tub, added a bottle of drain cleaner, and left them to soak for for a couple of days.

They came out looking brand new.

Big panels are a 300 series stainless ballpark as far as corrosion goes, so not much worry there. There are some areas on the tow hooks, wheels, etc that are rusting and getting a lot of attention, those parts are NOT made out of stainless steel.

The fact that people seriously think stainless steel panels are rusting tells me that either (1) the schools in this country are failing or (2) the modern art museums in this country are failing.

Yet here some are looking at heads of rail dust and acting like it as well.

Have to say I trust whomever makes that metal over some. Oh this is the way we do it process....Why? That's the way it's always done.

My Weber grill has been sitting outside with no grill cover for 7 years, through rain, snow, and sun, and the surface is still perfect, no rust. I would expect no less from a $100k+ Cybertruck. If there is fairy, i mean rail dust, or whatever kind of dust that prevents the CT surface from performing as expected, then I expect Tesla to do something preventative about this.

The rail dust is not "preventing" the CT surface from doing what it was designed for. It's just sitting on top of the surface. I get rail dust on my regular, painted car every year and have to detail it to get it off the clear coat every spring.

Doubtful. Takes time for rail dust to buildup

Wow, I didn’t know rail yards were such car destroyers. I’ve owned and driven cars for 30 years and have never had or ever heard of a problem with car finishes getting ruined by “rail yards”, LMAO. Can we find more things to be aftraid of?

just kidding man. In all seriousness the “rail dust” thing is real.

Toyota had this problem back in the mid-aughts with their FJs. They were all built in Japan and taken by rail to the shipyard then parked on a ship for several weeks while being floated to the US. They noticed the same little rust flecks when they arrived stateside. After some research they determined it was due to the iron flecks coming off the rail and the trains combined with them sitting in the ships for an extended period of time. It was way easy to remove.

It wasn’t a big deal then. It still isn’t a big deal now. The problem now is that everyone and their dog is hyper focused on the CT steel.

Any little speck or issue is going to be picked up and pounded down the public throat for clicks because that’s how the online “news” is these day.
