... That means it will be months before there is a public release. Tesla still have to crash test the final production vehicle with NITSA, they usually release to employees before general public. If my guesses are correct, we will be lucky to see it on the streets in publics hands before 2024. S00n?

We have seen what people are dubbing master candidates for a while now.

What makes you think nhtsa hasn't crashed any?

We always knew that rollout would be to employees and me first.

You just venting? Lol

Crash testing not required prior to release. Lots of vehicles are never crash tested by NHTSA or IIHS including most smaller volume vehicles. A few examples not crash tested by NHTSA: BMW 7 series, BMW Z4, Rivian R1, Fisker Ocean, etc. etc. etc.

Note, compliance with FMVSS is mostly an OEM self-certification process. Also, EPA certification is required but EPA does not test many vehicles. It is an OEM certification using a 3rd party lab.

MC is not master candidate.

MC = manufacturing confirmation

what *a* people (Joe?) has dubbed it, far as I can tell

‘MC’ stands for ‘manufacturing confirmation’

RCs weren’t built entirely on the line (incrementally more so as time went on)

MCs are built on the line

which is I figure why they’re called ‘manufacturing confirmation’ - they’re now more validating the ‘manufacturing’ (line) than the vehicle

the RCs showed them that the vehicle, it’s parts, all go together and work (even if assembled by hand)

the MCs show how well the line can do it

Idk bros name. You saw the post. Cause you commented in there too. The phrase has popped up multiple times.

My post wasn't saying that they are definitely called master candidates (hence the hedging), people are missing the point.

My post said the RC trucks are not the only ones we see anymore

I should’ve put a laughing face or something for indicating agreeing and adding (as opposed to taking any exception)

And yeah, we’ve seen a few MCs - they have Vins with 8XX (sometimes marked on windows)

but not near as many as we’d like to see for the delivery event to be around the corner

then again, the outbound lot is only for outbound things. And GFTX is huge, so it may be possible there’s a fleet of the things indoors.

also possible is that, so far, the line isn’t spitting out that many MCs that pass muster. And that we’re not seeing them in outbound because they’re not up to even whatever initial inspections they do at GFTX (as opposed to Fremont etc).

Or GFTX can do all the testing now, nothing needs shipping out, so there’s a bunch of dialed in MCs stockpiled indoors.

🤷🏻‍♂️
